Boys Surface in old glass material
CINEMA 4D
February 2007

This was rendered with C4Ds surface and volume caustics turned on- I'm not sure why there isn't more light scattering on the floor. Boys surface is a single sided surface with 3 'caves'. At the backside is the special ' triple point'. Technically the surface cannot exist in the 3 real geometric dimensions (as I understand it) - this model is an 'immersion' of the real projective plane into 3-space as parameterized by Bryant-Kusner.

Werner Boy studied under Hilbert and was given the task of proving that the real projective plane could NOT be immersed in to 3-space; instead, 1901 he proved the opposite. Grad students are certain to appreciate that!
